Our Story

How we got started...

Pastor Stephen and Lady Sheila Josie founded Body of Christ Community Church (BOCCC) in 2008 in Portsmouth, Virginia. BOCCC first began as an in-home ministry. Then it became apparent that many wanted and needed a church that they could call home and begin to pour into other people what God revealed in them.

Love being the foundation of their ministry has helped them to produce a growing congregation of like-minded believers that come together to advance The Kingdom.

Pastor Stephen and Lady Sheila are family-oriented individuals who believe in coming together as many members...one love and one body in Jesus Christ.

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of the Body of Christ Community Church.

These beliefs are based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible and are firmly rooted in and flow from biblical doctrine.

What we believe

  • The Bible is the only inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
  • There is one God, the Creator of all things who is infinitely perfect and eternally existent in three persons - God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus Christ is all God and man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross as a sacrifice for all of the sins of mankind. He rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and Intercessor.
  • Mankind, both men and women, were created in the spiritual image and likeness of God for His glory and to reflect His character on the earth.
  • Through the sin of one man, Adam, all sinned. However, through the death and blood of one man, Jesus Christ, all have the opportunity to receive salvation.
  • Water baptism, immersion in water for believers only; identifying them with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • Communion, The Lord's Supper is a covenant meal for believers with the bread representing the body of Jesus Christ and the cup representing the new covenant in His blood.
